How to leave your comfort zone behind

Few things are more difficult than change. Change presents surprising situations and forces us into uncomfortable situations. If we are not prepared to handle challenging situations, we will struggle with change. This guide can help in stepping out of one’s comfort zone and in overcoming personal challenges.

  3. It’s the people, places, and behaviors that cause you little to no stress.
  4. We all like to be be comfortable.
  5. Unfortunately, your comfort zone also prevents change from occurring in your life.
  6. Your life won’t change unless you do something new…
  7. …and new behaviors create discomfort.
  8. We’ve spent much of our life avoiding situations that make us uncomfortable.
  9. This avoidance also causes us to become stuck.
  10. Life feels old and stale when nothing ever changes.
  11. We don’t change, grow, or have adventures.
  12. Increase your tolerance for discomfort with these strategies…
  13. 1. Give yourself practice by making small changes each day…
  14. ✴Go see a movie you would never see.
  15. ✴Take something new for lunch.
  16. ✴Try a new restaurant.
  17. ✴Take an Uber or the bus to work if you normally drive.
  18. ✴Exercise each morning for a week.
  19. Learn to manage the discomfort you feel from these small changes.
  20. Take small steps toward a big goal.
  21. Big goals are scary enough.
  22. Adding huge changes may convince you to change your mind.
  23. Suppose your goal is to lose 75 pounds…
  24. It wouldn’t be productive to put yourself on a strict diet…
  25. …and try to exercise for two hours each day.
  26. What could you do instead?
  27. ✴Have a healthy low-calorie breakfast each morning.
  28. ✴Take a 20-minute walk each evening.
  29. ✴Eliminate high-calorie drinks.
  30. ✴Add a salad to dinner and drop a side dish.
  31. Any of these would be a good start.
  32. After a week, you could add another.
  33. What could you do each day to move yourself toward your goal?
  34. 3. Talk to strangers.
  35. The world is filled with amazing people.
  36. Use them as practice for expanding your comfort zone.
  37. Why be bored standing in line…
  38. …when you could talk to someone new?
  39. Is it scary?
  40. A little, but ask yourself why.
  41. Change your wardrobe.
  42. Wear something you would never wear.
  43. ✴Try wearing it around the house at first.
  44. ✴Wear it to the store.
  45. ✴Let your best friend see it.
  46. Ask yourself why you feel that way. Notice how you feel.
  47. Try a new food.
  48. Maybe it’s sushi or something spicy.
  49. Give something new a chance.
  50. Go someplace you would normally never go.
  51. Maybe you avoid bars, churches, museums, or public places.
  52. Try someplace new and expand your knowledge of the world.
  53. Go an entire day without checking your personal email…
  54. or social media.
  55. This will be easy for some and impossible for others.
  56. See if you can go 24 hours without cheating.
  57. Looking ahead…
  58. Your comfort zone is preventing you from becoming all you can be.
  59. Push yourself to spend some time feeling uncomfortable each day.
  60. Over time, you’ll build up your tolerance…
  61. …and be able to deal with more stress.
